ROCKFORD (WREX) — Guilford volleyball player Ella Holmstrom signed her National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at Marquette in the Big East. The outside hitter had verbally committed to Indiana as a freshman, but changed her mind in recent months as she thought more about what she wanted to do.
"When you make a decision at such a young age, you change so much and you mature," Holmstrom explains. "The past few months I really got to some thinking and I realized Indiana wasn't the place for me anymore."
Holmstrom then came across Marquette, which she feels will suit her the best.
"Honestly it's just perfect," she said. "It's in the city, their volleyball program is extremely competitive and I think I'll fit right in there."
She's created last relationships with her friends and teammates in high school and club volleyball. She expects to do the same at the college level.
"It's really exciting because new experiences in your life bring so much joy and excitement," Holmstrom said. "The girls that I'll be playing with will be going through very similar situations that I'll be going through. I think the bonds that we'll create will be really strong."
Holmstrom will play her final club season with VC United starting after Thanksgiving before moving on to play for Marquette next fall.
