Police: Teen dies following crash that killed her mom

Rockford Police are on scene of a traffic accident at State and Avon

The crash happened last week near W. State St. and Avon.

ROCKFORD (WREX) — Rockford police say the teenager who was hurt in a crash that killed her mom has died. 

Police confirmed the death of the 14-year-old girl on Wednesday.

The crash happened last Monday, Oct. 4 on Avon St. 

A 38-year-old woman died on scene. A 5-month-old child was also seriously hurt, according to police. 

Days after the crash, authorities announced a man, Juan Acre, faces several charges following the crash

Acre faces the following charges: 

  • Aggravated DUI involving death
  • Aggravated DUI with Great Bodily Harm
  • Reckless homicide
  • Aggravated DUI (revoked license)

The coroner's office identified the 38-year-old woman as Jerrisha Goodwin, of Rockford.
