FVV Turkey Giveaway

500 turkeys and fix-ins were handed out today at the FVV Shop in Rockford.

500 families got a free turkey dinner ahead of the holidays

ROCKFORD (WREX) — A Rockford native is giving back to help people in need.

Auburn grad and NBA basketball star Fred VanVleet held his fourth annual Thanksgiving Turkey giveaway Sunday afternoon. 500 turkeys and plenty of side dishes were ready to be handed out for this year's event at the FVV Shop in downtown Rockford.

"Fred, you obviously know, NBA player loves giving back to his community, so why not do it the right way, every year," said Keffer Simpson, the FVV Shop's chief operating officer and long-time friend of VanVleet.

This year, participants just had to drive up to the FVV Shop and collect the Thanksgiving meals.

"It's always good, especially with these times with the holidays, everybody wants to be around their family, you might not have the means to provide a full dinner," said Airmis Clark, CEO of the FVV Shop. "If we can help with that, we're more than happy to. This community does a lot with us so we just want to make sure we give back."

Fred VanVleet's shop is located at 328 E. State St. in downtown Rockford.
