ROCKFORD (WREX) — You may not know this, but there is a cemetery behind River Bluff nursing home.
Around 700 people are buried there. Friday. members of the Stateline community came together to remember those we have lost.
A 21 gun salute was part of the memorial held at the site of Poor Farm cemetery. People were buried at the cemetery from 1884 to 1954.
A monument was later dedicated at the cemetery in 1973. It is believed that some of the people buried there are veterans.
"When I found out that there was 700 people buried back here, it broke my heart. So we decided to give them the proper memorial that they deserved and give the veterans the recognition that they deserved," River Bluff Nursing Home Admission & Marketing Director, Laura Doise said.
River Bluff plans on making the memorial an annual event.
