ROCKFORD (WREX) — Stroll on State is 10 days away and the Christmas tree has made its way to Davis Park.

The Rockford Area Convention and Visitors Bureau celebrated the ninth annual Christmas tree harvest day on Tuesday.

The tree has been installed in its new home at the park to be shared with the community. This year's tree was donated by the Guarino family who says Christmas has a special meaning to them.

"I think it's a great way for the tree to go," says Phil Guirano.

Him and his wife Sherry planted the tree for Phil's parents 50th wedding anniversary in 1995. Phil says his mom loved Christmas and decorating for the holidays.

So the Guirano's decided that donating the tree to Stroll on State is just another way they're celebrating the holidays.

"You know, it's been a family tradition to do a lot on Christmas," says Sherry, "We've raised our kids here and now our grandkids get to see it all too. And they're out in the car just as excited as we are. It's neat."

Phil says his mom would be happy to share the tree with the city for the holidays.
