FREEPORT (WREX) — The Freeport Fire Department is showing support for breast cancer this month.

Firefighters will be wearing pink shirts and polos all October.

Freeport Fire Chief, Bradley Liggett, says most people they see in an ambulance do not have a primary doctor, making it hard to recognize signs and symptoms of breast cancer.

The Fire Department wants people in the community to feel supported while battling breast cancer.

"If we can raise awareness in our community and improve the health of our community through these awareness campaigns," Liggett said. "Then it makes it better for the whole community."

Chief Liggett hopes spreading awareness will help improve quality of life.
