Edgebrook Tree Lighting

The countdown is over as Edgebrook flips the switch on their Christmas tree. All to encourage local buying this holiday season.

ROCKFORD (WREX) — Edgebrook shopping center kicked off it's holiday season with their annual tree lighting event.

A large group of Stateline natives took part in the festive atmosphere.

To help bring joy to the tree lighting, choir students from Boylan and Rockford Lutheran High Schools sung holiday jungles.

Even Santa Claus came to town as he gave out candy canes to children.

Businesses at Edgebrook have already gotten into the holiday spirit with art painted on their windows.

The tree lighting is to encourage people to buy local this holiday season.

Edgebrook Marketing Coordinator, Sandy Dingus, says that doing something like this makes people aware of local businesses in the Stateline.

"It helps highlight that we are an all local mall," said Dingus. "And small businesses have really had a tough time over the last 18 or so months. So this just brings some holiday spirit to them."

Tomorrow, businesses at Edgebrook will have open houses for the holiday season.
