WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WREX) — A Rockford man is arrested and another is fighting for his life after a two-car crash in Winnebago County Wednesday evening.
The Winnebago County Sheriff's Office responded to a two car crash just before 5 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of S Mulford and Baxter Roads. When deputies arrived, they learned a Dodge Charger tried to pass a Chevy Malibu when it hit the Malibu near the intersection.
According to the sheriff's office, the driver and passenger in the Charger ran away and returned a short time later while the driver of the Malibu was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The Charger was reported stolen out of Chicago.
The driver of the Charger, Eric G. Solis, 23, of Rockford, is charged with unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated reckless driving, improper passing and disregarding a stop sign.
The passenger of the Charger, Isaiah M. Fritz, 23, of Rockford, is charged with criminal trespass to vehicle.
The driver of the Malibu, who was hospitalized, has not been identified.
The crash is under investigation by the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office.
