19-year-old charged with attempted murder, victim shot in the neck

ROCKFORD (WREX) — 19-year-old Talib Bazzelle was arrested and charged with multiple charges, including attempted murder.

On Friday, September 17, 2021, at approximately 3:20 a.m., Rockford Police officers responded to a report of a vehicle crash, along with shots fired, in the area of Ogilby Road and Forsythia Drive.

Upon arrival, officers observed two crashed vehicles and a subject running from the scene. They chased the suspect, 19-year-old Talib Bazzelle, and took him into custody after a brief struggle.

Near the scene of the crash, officers located a 48-yr-old male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the neck. During the investigation, the victim advised that while he was driving in his vehicle, he was chased by several people in another vehicle. The people in the other vehicle began shooting at the victim.

The victim advised that he was struck in the neck by the bullet near the intersection of Ogilby Road and Forsythia Drive.

Immediately following, his vehicle was struck by the offending vehicle.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Rockford Police officers located and recovered two pistols at the scene.
