Machesney Park Tree Lighting

The Christmas parade that goes with the tree lighting has gone on for over 20 years

MACHESNEY PARK (WREX) — Thanksgiving is just a few days away but the Village of Machesney Park got a head start on Christmas over the weekend.

The village, along with the City of Loves Park, celebrated their Christmas tree lighting and parade Sunday night.

It's a tradition more than 20 years old.

A 30 foot tall Christmas tree lit up Machesney Park Village Square, leaving village leaders happy to see people out enjoying the holiday season.

"As we're going down on the float on Elm, there's thousands of people and that's what warms my heart when I see so many people enjoying this kind of event," Machesney Park Village President Steve Johnson said.

The Christmas tree also has a mailbox to Santa Claus if your child wants to send him a wish list this year.
