ROCKFORD (WREX)- To celebrate Black History Month, members of the Rockford Boys and Girls Club are recognizing some of the most influential African-Americans through art.

The club teamed up with local U.S. Cellular workers to hold an art contest. Contestants created piece of art work that recognize prominent African-Americans. Ten finalists were chosen. Now, the community can vote at U.S. Cellular stores for their favorite pieces of art throughout February.

“I think if Dr. Martin Luther King was alive, he’d be proud of us,” said Lekyra Pittman, a student participating in the art contest. “Everybody, drawing this, winning prizes and remembering him.”

The top three pieces with the most votes will be announced in March.
