BELOIT (WKOW) — New jobs will be coming to the city of Beloit just in time for the 2020 holiday season.
On Monday, Amazon announced the new one-million-square-foot fulfillment center will create 500 new full-time jobs. Employees will work alongside Amazon robotics to pick, package and ship small items to customers like books, electronics or consumer goods. The company will pay its employees 15 dollars an hour with comprehensive benefits.
In December, the city of Beloit confirmed the site will be constructed on the site next to Specialty Tools Inc., just off Interstates 39, 43 and 90.
The Greater Beloit Economic Development Corporation sold the land to Amazon in December. Peyton Paisley, WI, LLC, a division of USAA, bought the 80 acres on Gateway Boulevard for $80 according to a press release from the city of Beloit.
"This development would not only provide our community with jobs and increased property value but also a valued relationship with a household name," City Manager Lori Curtis Luther said in December.
"A project of this magnitude is certainly a game-changer for Beloit."
