Friday's emergency day will be made up at the end of the school year.

DIXON (WREX) — Dixon Public Schools have canceled all classes Friday.

The school district says they are using an emergency day for Friday, Jan. 14. There will be no in-person or remote classes in the district.

The district posted on their Facebook page, saying the closure is due to low staffing numbers.

"We are hoping that the long weekend will allow our staff levels to return to normal next week," the district says.

After school activities are also being affected. Dixon High School's Thursday night Boys Bowling matchup with Mendota has been canceled. The Girls Basketball game against North Boone on Friday has been postponed.

On Wednesday, Dixon High School notified parents that four people at the school had tested positive for COVID-19.

The school district says they plan for students to return to class on Tuesday, Jan. 18. Friday's emergency day will be made up at the end of the school year.
