The National Weather Service offices in Milwaukee and Davenport have a Winter Storm Watch posted for the following counties: Green, Rock & Walworth in Wisconsin and Jo Daviess, Stephenson, Carroll, & Whiteside in Illinois for Thursday. Tonight will remain mostly cloudy with a low near 30.
It looks as though this system will begin to impact the Rockford
region during the mid morning and early afternoon. The precipitation
type for the northern half of the region looks to remain all snow as of
right now. A rain/snow mix is likely along and south of the I-88
corridor. After looking though and analyzing numerous weather models,
it looks like this event will have a significant difference in total
snow accumulations across the region. An area of 3 to 6 inches is
expected across the northern tier of Illinois counties from Galena
through Freeport, Rockford, Belvidere, and Marengo. Just across the
Wisconsin border is the best chance for seeing totals closer to 6 inches
and maybe a little more. This includes Monroe, Brodhead, Beloit,
Janesville, Delavan, and Lake Geneva. Areas along and north of the I-88
corridor including Savanna, Polo, Rochelle, DeKalb, and Sycamore could
see 1 to 3 inches. Little to no snow accumulation is expected near
Dixon and other areas south of Interstate 88.
We will keep you up to date on the latest, as the weather models are still evolving this system. The storm track and accumulations may need to be altered. Stay tuned to the Weather Blog and 13 News at 6 and 10pm for the latest. -JA
