Today will bring us more clouds than sunshine. Our high temperatures finally push back into the mid 20s. Cloud cover will thicken toward the evening hours when snow slowly will enter the area from the southwest to the northeast. The bulk of the heaviest snow will arrive between 9pm and 12am.
Snowfall accumulation will be light, perhaps an inch or two at best for the Rockford area, but areas south and east of Rockford could see some locally heavier totals. If your travels take you to central Illinois, Indiana, and points east, prepare for accumulations in excess of 6 inches in spots.
Cold air returns for Sunday. Temperatures will start off in the single digits and only rise into the teens. Light snow is possible late Sunday night into early Monday. Light accumulations are possible.
Temperatures will remain in the 20s for highs and teens for lows next Monday through Thursday. A few flakes are possible again Monday night and Tuesday night. A better chance for snow comes late next week. -Greg
