UPDATE: Final suspect in series of robberies turns himself in

UPDATE: Rockford Police say a suspect wanted on robbery charges has turned himself in.

Latham Swift, 20 of Rockford, turned himself in to Rockford Police on Thursday night.

Swift and four juveniles were the subject of a month long investigation of a series of robberies in the city. The four juveniles were arrested on Wednesday, August 8th. 

Swift faces two armed robbery charges. One 17-year-old is charged with two counts of armed robbery, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of stolen property. Three other people, a 17-year-old and 16-year-old, have also been charged with armed robbery. 

Swift is being held at the Winnebago County Jail.

Police say they are investigating whether or not these suspects were involved in four other armed robberies that recently occurred in the city. 


Over the past month, the Rockford Police Department has investigated a series of armed robbery's in the city. And now, police say they know who committed the crimes. 

On Wednesday, two juveniles were arrested. Two additional juveniles were taken in to custody in connection with the investigation. A stolen handgun was recovered during the investigation.

"It is discouraging to see juveniles involved in such serious violent crime," says Police Chief Dan O'Shea. "We will continue to pursue all persons committing violent acts in order to make our community safer." 

Swift is still at large. His bond is set at $25,000. There are no photos available of the suspects.
