After years of waiting, neighbors in Rockton now know an asphalt plant will be
"I'm extremely angry and upset that they could push this through on the neighbors with no regard to the health and whatever," Barb Gustin, a Rockton Resident says.
Gustin says she lives right down the road from where the Northern Illinois Service Company says it wants to build that plant.
It's a proposal Gustin and her neighbors say they never wanted there, but the board voted 10 to 9 to bring that plant to Rockton.
Board Member Gary Jury, R-District 7, says he voted in favor of it because he says he's lived next to an asphalt plant his whole life and never noticed a smell or health hazard. But, that's not the only reason why he says he supported the proposal.
"We need jobs in this community," Jury says. "How many jobs do you think people are going to take their truck and drive there? Those are jobs also."
While Thursday night's vote didn't go as several neighbors would have hoped, they say they're somewhat happy to finally have an answer.
"I'm glad it's over, but we got screwed," Gustin says.
