Five local residents graduated from a program that they say has changed their lives forever yesterday.
The Winnebago County Therapeutic Intervention Program sent 5 of it's newest grads into the world yesterday in the program's 25th graduation ceremony. TIP is a voluntary program that provides treatment and services to people within the criminal justice system who suffer from serious and persistent mental illnesses.
The 5 new grads were able to celebrate the end of their time in the program which they say helped them realize what they were doing wrong in dealing with their mental illness.
"As I landed in Jail I didn't really understand the consequences that I was facing. Had I known the consequences I wouldn't have done what I did."
said Francisco Bustamante who graduated from the TIP program yesterday.
As of yesterday's graduation, a total of 155 people have gone through the program.
