A new partnership in Freeport means more opportunities for students there.
Highland Community College is teaming up with Columbia College to offer degrees for nursing students.
Students will attend Highland to get an Associate of Applied Science Registered Nursing Degree.
Then, they will take online classes through Columbia College to get a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
"This will allow our professional nurses to go on and attain and achieve that next degree with the luxury of never having to leave the area and to continue working full time," said Highland Community College President Tim Hood.
Both colleges say this will also provide a network to retain nurses to work in local hospitals.
