Rockford Police Department sees Officer Cox's name on memorial

WASHINGTON (WREX) -

On Monday afternoon, members of the Rockford Police Department made their way to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington DC. In section 27 W 31, they found the engraved name of their own fallen officer, Officer Jaimie Cox.

Police Chief Dan O'Shea transferred the name to paper. But Cox wasn't the only fallen officer the department took time to pay respects to. Chief O'Shea went to every fallen Rockford officer's name in the memorial, to carefully rub a crayon across the stone to bring home to Rockford — 7 in total.

"It's important. You know, we say we never forget and we mean it. So we'll take the etchings back, put them up in the department," O'Shea said. "We've got a memorial up on our memorial wall with shadow boxes for the fallen and we'll continue to add to that and every year we're going to continue to come out and pay our respects for our fallen officers. We'll never forget them."
