Ogle County reports 3 cases of Lyme disease

OREGON (WREX) -

Ogle County health officials want to warn you about the dangers of ticks and Lyme disease.

The county has seen 3 cases of Lyme disease since February, according to the Ogle County Health Department.

Lyme disease is transmitted to humans from the bite of an infested tick. In most cases, a tick must be attached for 36 to 48 hours before Lyme disease can be transmitted, according to officials. To remove a tick, take a pair of tweezers and grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible. Pull upward and then clean the area with soap, water and rubbing alcohol. The health department says to not crush the tick or used petroleum jelly, nail polish or a match to remove it.
