No bail for man found guilty of killing a Chicago woman with a car
CHICAGO (AP) -
A Cook County judge denies bail to a man charged with the death of a Chicago woman last week. She was hit by a car being chased by police.
On Sunday, Judge David R. Navarro denied bail for Curtis Pugh of Matteson, who prosecutors said recklessly drove the car that struck Julia Calloway on Thursday.
Calloway was crossing a Chicago street when the car slammed into her and another pedestrian. The 55-year-old woman was taken to a hospital where she later died. A 30-year-old man was treated at the scene.
Police say Pugh drove away, but later crashed the car. Authorities say drugs were found in the car.
Pugh's attorney, Daniel T. Coyne, said his client had a minor criminal record, and the current case was "an aberration."
