Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department conducts training with planned house fire

The Harlem- Roscoe Fire Department got some real life training this afternoon with a structure they got to light on fire.

New recruits were able to experience how to battle a house fire in the elements with the heat, smoke, and water. The Chief said this is the best type of training they could have asked for since they cannot recreate this type of heat in their normal training facilities.

The structure was going to be demolished by a local church to create green space but they allowed the fire department to use it in their training courses. The department even used some drone technology for learning purposes.

"When we have this opportunity to have real hot fires it helps us train better and they know what to look for and how it feels with the smoke and everything," Battalion Chief, Jay Alms said.

Chief Alms says the recruits did an excellent job during the training session and he is very pleased with the way they battled the blaze.
