The Rockford IceHogs enjoyed the comforts of the BMO Harris Bank Center, playing behind a raucous crowd and dominating the Chicago Wolves to the tune of a 5-2 victory in Game 2 of the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs.
The IceHogs lead the best-of-five series 2-0, and can sweep the series with a win in Rosemont on Thursday in Game 3, which begins at 7:00 pm.
Game 2 began with Jim Cornelison, the famed Chicago Blackhawks anthem singer, who brought a cheering crowd to its feet for the Star Spangled Banner. After the Wolves took the early 1-0 lead, William Pelletier (even strength) and Luke Johnson (power play) provided the tallies for a 2-1 Rockford lead.
Chicago stunned the Hogs crowd with a goal in the final second of the first period to tie the game. However, Rockford killed a 5-on-3 and scored two power play goals of their own, courtesy of Matthew Highmore and Chris DiDomenico. That 4-2 lead after two periods stood up for the final 20, with Lance Bouma adding an empty netter for the final exclamation point.
Collin Delia made 26 saves in net in his second straight playoff start.
