The wintry weather the Rockford area is experiencing is putting a halt on outdoor play or spring sports around the area. The Rockford University softball team was expected to play games today, however with the wet and snowy conditions their games were canceled.
The coaching staff says the softball team has yet to play an outdoor Saturday game so far this season due to weather conditions. The softball field is also in disarray after being hammered with rain, snow, and cold conditions. Head coach, Josh Keener says having delays in play like this will eventually take a toll on the team and their spring season.
"Everyone from the junior colleges to the four year schools, to the high schools are going through this. It puts us in a bit of a bind because our roster isn't as big as we would want it to be, so we're going to be in a position here soon where we are going to be playing a lot of games, in not very many days, and just trying to keep everyone healthy," Keener said.
Coach Keener says the team is scheduled to play their next home game this upcoming Wednesday and he has hopes that they can have the field ready for game day.
