It's been one week since the Belvidere Fire Department put their brand new fire truck into service and it's already helped put out a house fire. The Belvidere Fire Department says this new truck, which is a 2018 Alexis Custom pumper will be replacing their old one that was in service for 26 years.
The new truck has upgrades like a 650-gallon water tank, new extrication tools, LED lights, and it comes fully equipped for EMS calls as well. The department says having these upgrades will greatly benefit their work flow when responding to calls.
"This engine will serve the community for many years. It's definitely a good benefit having the new apparatus and they new technology. It's a lot safer for us and it holds a lot more equipment for us to better serve the community," Belvidere Firefighter Nic Thornton said.
Thornton says this is the first new fire truck the department has received in nearly 15 years.
