Smart meters are rolling into Rockford and one group says it wants to make sure you know how to use them.
Today, NIU STEM Outreach hosted its Smart Energy Day event. People got the chance to walk through several different simulations of how to use energy in their home more efficiently.
Experts say tips like running your washing machine and dish washer at different times during the day could save you money.
"Now, we can go and sign up for different programs that allows us to either save energy a couple times a month either through a demand management program or through real time pricing. so this allows us to pay for pricing for electricity at different times a day," Kevin Martin, one of the Smart Energy Day organizers says.
Organizers say you can sign up for some of those programs through your energy provider.
