A call for peace, that's what some Rockford residents say they're asking for after a recent string of violence in our area and across the country.
Today, dozens of people gathered at Beattie Mound Park for a vigil. This comes after the charter bus shooting that killed three people and an officer involved shooting in Sacramento, California that left Stephon Clark dead.
The Rockford Youth Activist group says it doesn't want to see that violence in the Forest City. Several people even spoke about how the unrest has touched their own lives.
"We're just bringing all of this to light because it's still happening and we want people to know that this is still going on," Starr Davison, an event organizer says. "Even though you got your all lives, this is still going on and we need to step up and forth and approach the situation as honestly and truthful as we can."
Other organizations at that event include Hear the Rock Cry and Rockford Anti-Racists.
