When we surprised Mrs. Hampl to present her with the 13 WREX Teacher of the Week award, it was no secret she was caught off guard.
"I was surprised and wanted to cry," Mrs. Hampl said.
On Wednesday, Mrs. Hampl's third grade class was being tested on fractions, but that tricky topic didn't scare most of them.
"She helped us learn really good," one of her third grade students said.
And while these kids were hush hush while testing, afterwards they couldn't keep quite about Mrs. Hampl.
Many students said their third grade teacher was the best they've had.
Assistant Principal Jennifer Lac says being the best, has a lot to do with the personal connection Mrs. Hampl has with her kids.
"Kids know that she's genuine and know they are safe," Dr. Lac said.
"A child's needs must be met before they can achieve academic growth.
Mrs. Hampl was an accountant before she was a teacher. She says entering the classroom was the best decision she's ever made.
"I love the kids because you get to see them grow," Mrs. Hampl said.
"It's great when you see the light turn on and they get the idea."
