The Rockford IceHogs had a successful Saturday night to end the month of March on and off the ice - they welcomed back Bryan Bickell for Jersey Auction Night, then scored four goals in less than five minutes to start the third period, beating the San Jose Barracuda 5-3 at the BMO Harris Bank Center.
Bickell, a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Chicago Blackhawks who spent multiple minor league stints with Rockford, retired last year after he was diagnosed with multiple schlerosis. #BickellBrave took over social media as the NHL rallied to support one of their own, and the IceHogs did their part to support Bickell's health in retirement. Proceeds from Jersey Auction Night will go to his foundation and the M.S. Society.
Donning fresh Hawaiian themed sweaters on an ice sheet painted with a floral pattern to continue the theme of the night, the IceHogs fell into a 3-1 deficit after two periods against San Jose before they lit the lamp four times in the first five minutes of the final frame. Their fourth win in a row continues to solidify their standing in the Calder Cup Playoffs picture with six games left in the regular season.
Five of those last six games are on the road, with the regular season home finale on April 13th, a Friday night.
