A group of young musicians in our area gets a big honor.
The Rockford Symphony Youth Orchestra was named Youth Orchestra of the Year. That honor comes from the Illinois Council of Orchestras.
It judges orchestras on their programming, community involvement and opportunities for youth and more.
Rockford Symphony Orchestra members say they're proud of the youth that brought this distinction home.
"For the Rockford Symphony Orchestra to receive this honor is just is really huge. It brings a lot of honor to our organization but to our whole region that the Rockford region supports the arts in the way to have youth orchestra," said Margo Stedman, Education and Community Engagement Director for RSO.
The RSYO is made up of 60 young musicians from northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin
Their next performance is April 22 at the Hononegah Performing Arts Center.
