Dozens of Sock Monkeys were brought to life this afternoon, right here in Rockford where they originated. The Midway Village Museum has plenty of red heeled socks and sewing materials so everyone can make a sock monkey of their own.
Organizers say this event allows members of the community to learn about the manufacturing history of Rockford, all while having a good time.
"There is a very relevant part to our history, because John Nelson invented a knitting machine that could sew a seamless sock. that's the sock that makes the Sock Monkey," Midway Village Museum coordinator, Lonna Converso said.
The event will be running all weekend, so if you didn't get your hands on a Sock Monkey today, you have another chance tomorrow. The event will be taking place from 10am until 4pm.
