Rockford native Fred VanVleet has turned his play up a notch since the calendar flipped to 2018. VanVleet scored 11 points and handed out four assists to help the Toronto Raptors beat the Chicago Bulls, 122-98.
VanVleet's 11 points mark the ninth straight game the former Auburn High School star has hit double digits. The Raptors have won all nine of those games, surging into the top spot in the Eastern Conference standings heading into the All-Star break. The only game they've lost in that stretch was when VanVleet stayed home to be with his newborn baby during the team's quick trip to Washington. The double digit scoring streak started with a career-high 25 point performance against the Lakers.
VanVleet is scheduled to return home this Saturday during the NBA's All-Star break, as Auburn will retire his number 23 jersey. That ceremony will take place Saturday afternoon when Auburn hosts Freeport. The ceremony will happen between the sophomore and varsity games, likely in the 1 o'clock hour.
