Aquin and Winnebago both won their Sectional semifinal games Monday night, putting them both in position to play for a Sectional championship Thursday night.
In 1-A, Aquin defeated East Dubuque, 49-38, to advance to the Sectional title game on its home court. Aquin climbed out of a 14-3 early deficit to win the game, led by 19 points and five steals from senior Georgia James. She sparked the team in the third quarter, hitting a pair of key threes, with a Maggie Bald three in between those, to give Aquin its first lead midway through the third quarter, and the Lady Bulldogs never looked back. They face the winner of Eastland and Stockton in the 1-A Aquin Sectional final Thursday night at 7:00.
In 2-A, Winnebago had a long trip to Manlius in the Bureau Valley Sectional semifinals. The Lady Indians took a lead into the half, and held on for a 47-43 victory over Hall. Winnebago will play Harvest Christian Academy out of Elgin at 7:00 Thursday night in Manlius.
In 3-A, Belvidere won a Regional quarterfinal game in Marengo over Genoa-Kingston, 33-30. Belvidere will face Burlington Central in the Regional semis. In the 3-A Dixon Regional, Sterling knocked off Freeport, while Rochelle held off Stillman Valley to advance to the semifinals.
In the 4-A Auburn Regional quarterfinals, the host Lady Knights knocked off Guilford, 77-46.
