Voters in the Rockford region will decide who should lead the Winnebago County Sheriff's department.
Today, voters got to hear from two candidates.
Current Sheriff Gary Caruana and his March primary opponent, former Deputy Kurt Ditzler discussed why they're the best man for the job. People gathered at the YWCA for the meeting, listening to the two candidates for about an hour. Caruana and Ditzler are both running as Republicans. Both had thoughts on the current status of the Winnebago County Budget.
"There's no way in one year, unless I cut so drastically and deep that I wouldn't be able to protect the community, " Winnebago Country Sheriff, Gary Caruana said.
"They have to try to lesson the impact on the services that you need to provide the community," Sheriff candidate, Kurt Ditzler said.
Voters will decide on March 20th who will be on the Republican station.
