Forget paint or clay — the area's top artists are about to make art out of snow.
This week, Sinnissippi Park will look like an outdoor winter museum. It's because snow sculptors from across the region are coming to Rockford for the 2019 Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition.
Winners will get the chance to represent the state in the national competition in Lake Geneva.
Organizers estimate about 30,000 people will visit Rockford for the three day event.
The event starts Wednesday. Sculptors have until Saturday to complete their work.
"Our sculptors actually go around and judge each others' pieces, so our state sculptors as soon as they are finished, their next job is to go out and they judge the other pieces," says Becky Lambert of the Rockford Park District.
Admission to the event at Sinnissippi Park is free.
