The man wanted for murder from an incident in October has turned himself in.

Marcus Spates, 47, turned himself in at the Winnebago County Jail on Thursday, according to the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office.

He faces 12 first degree murder charges for the death of Isaiah Starks. Rockford Police said on Oct. 5, officers responded to the 300 block of Cole Avenue. There officers found Starks, who had been hit by gunfire, and transported him to the hospital where he later died.

Each first degree murder charge is a crime that carries at least 20 to 60 years in prison.

Another man, 41-year-old Jamie Spates is also charged in the death. 13 WREX reached out to police to find out if Marcus Spates and Jamie Spates are related and have not heard back.
