The combination of freezing temperatures and a mix of sleet and freezing rain will create slippery spots on the roads tonight.
Temperatures are plummeting across the Stateline. After record-breaking highs in the 50's this morning, many locations are in the 20's to 30's, and will drop to the teens late tonight. The sudden cold may freeze on leftover rainfall on untreated roads, so watch for areas of ice on roads and sidewalks tonight.
On top of the freezing conditions, freezing rain and sleet may add a layer of ice or slick spots on top of the rain from earlier in the day. Accumulations will be light, but still enough to make roads slick. Drive slower and with a lot of caution, and give yourself plenty of space between you and the vehicles around you. Rain and sleet should wrap up by 6 pm, but impacts will linger well into tonight.
Salt trucks are out preparing the main roads and highways, and will move onto the side streets and neighborhoods after that. While the main roads should be ok this evening, watch icy spots, and definitely be ready for slippery side streets tonight.
The weather remains very cold yet dry through Monday.
