Tuesday night's high school basketball scene was highlighted by Aquin senior Zac Cummins reaching the 1,000-point mark in his Bulldogs career, scoring 23 points in a 70-56 Dawgs win over the Pecatonica Indians in NUIC action.
Cummins needed three points to reach the grand milestone, and scored his first basket while drawing a foul in the first quarter. He hit the free throw to complete the three-point play, and reach 1,000 points. Officials paused the game and handed Cummins the game ball to honor the achievement.
Aquin's girls team also picked up a Tuesday night win, beating Durand, 43-35, behind 12 points from Abby Barr.
Big Northern boys basketball saw the Route 72 rivalry play out in Byron, as the Tigers handled the Stillman Valley Cardinals, 72-45. The Lady Tigers, the two-time defending 2-A state champions, held off Oregon, 48-45.
