Belvidere Police Chief Jan Noble announces retirement

A big change is coming to Belvidere. After decades of service, the city's police chief is stepping down.

"About 98 percent of the officers have made personal contact, said, "Chief, thank you for what you've done, you're going to be missed.," said Belvidere Police Chief Jan Noble.

Chief Noble is leaving to take a new job.

Noble has spent 23 years with the Belvidere Police Department, all of them as chief.

Now, he's taking a new position with the state.

Noble says since he took over, a lot has changed including the growth in Belvidere, which led to some challenges.

"Drive-by shootings, had some gang violence and thank heavens to a group effort and officers who really cared about our town, that gang problem has subside," said Noble.

Noble's last day on the force is February 28. He'll officially announce his new job with the state at a later time.
