Rockford Police arrest man on multiple charges


Rockford Police arrested a man early Sunday after they say he shot a gun in a house and battered his girlfriend. 

The incident happened in the 700 block of Maple Avenue. Police received a call at around 3 AM for shots fired. When they got there, they found 30-year-old Antwon Caldwell holding a handgun outside the residence. 

Police asked Caldwell to put the gun down which he did without issue. The handgun came back as stolen from Kentucky. No one was injured by the gunshots during the incident. Police say a woman who happens to be Caldwell's girlfriend was home at the time of the incident and that she was battered by Caldwell. 

Police took Caldwell into custody and he faces the following charges:


1.) Aggravated discharge of a firearm

2.) Unlawful possession of a handgun

3.) Unlawful use of a weapon by a felon

4.) Reckless discharge of a firearm

 5.) Aggravated unlawful use of weapon

 6.) Violation of the firearm owner’s identification act (no foid)

 7.) Aggravated domestic battery

  8.) Criminal damage to property

The charges against Mr. Caldwell are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.  No further details were made available by Rockford Police at this time.
