The Oregon Police Department says a Mt. Morris man is recovering from gunshot wounds after a 16-year-old accidentally shot him while he was showing off a stolen firearm.
Police say around 2:20 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call at 408 1/2 West Washington Street after a 20-year-old male victim was shot in the abdomen. The victim was taken to KSB Hospital. He is currently in emergency care.
Police say after an investigation, they determined the 16-year-old, also of Mt. Morris, accidentally shot the victim while showing him a stolen firearm. The male juvenile was taken in to custody. The case is under review by the Ogle County State's Attorney's Office.
The names of the victim and the suspect were not released by police.
Police are trying to find the owner of the stolen .45 caliber semi-automatic hand gun. They say it may have been taken from a vehicle in Oregon in the past 12 months.
