A Rockford apartment building caught fire Wednesday afternoon, but no one called 911.
But thanks to a few Rockford firefighters, they saw flames and answered the call.
"Engine 11, which our building is right next to the apartment building, was on their way to a medical call. Our firefighters saw the flames, they stopped and immediately started a fire attack and called for additional resources," says Rockford Fire Chief Derek Bergsten.
The fire happened around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on Florida Drive. According to the department, the fire was burning for quite some time, even after neighbors in the area say they smelled smoke for about an hour.
No one was injured in the fire.
Chief Bergsten says the cold temperatures and icy conditions made things a little more difficult for firefighters.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
