We kicked off 2018 with record-breaking cold temperatures and very cold conditions will continue through at least Saturday. Since Christmas, the Stateline has been locked in a region of arctic air. Our temperatures have not hit 20 degrees or more in 8 days! This persistently cold pattern means that we will add to that tally over the next few days. Highs will remain below 20 degrees through the end of this week, with a few days staying in the single-digits. On top of that, our temperatures at night have been below zero for four nights in a row. Additional nights with subzero temperatures are also on the forecast.
For the remainder of this week, temperatures and the associated wind chills will likely be near or back down into the Wind Chill Advisory criteria. Additional Wind Chill Advisories will be issued as needed if the wind chill falls to below -20°. To avoid frostbite and hypothermia, plan to stay indoors as much as possible this week. Keep pets inside and keep an eye on pipes.
Hang in there until this weekend! Temperatures start to improve on Sunday. Temperatures look to warm up for at least a day or two, but this may come at a price. Currently, there is a chance for snow or wintry mix on Sunday. The cold looks to return by the middle of next week.
