Clayton Finishes 7th in NCAA 800m Final

Hononegah graduate and former IHSA state champion Courtney Clayton suited up for Vanderbilt in the 2017 NCAA Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, competing in the 800m finals after qualifying for the event earlier in the preliminaries.

Clayton finished 7th in the 800m final, with a new PR time of 2:04.02 and All-American honors for the Lady Commodores. The former Lady Indians star told the 13 Sports Authority prior to her trip to Oregon she had hoped to run below 2:04, and came awfully close to accomplishing that goal. Oregon's Raevyn Rogers won the 800m title with a 2:00.02 time.

NIU's Hope Schmelzle represented the Lady Huskies in Eugene, running in the finals of the 3000m steeplechase. Schmelze finished in 6th place with a time of 9:55.49. She is NIU's first All-American track & field athlete. Boise State's Allie Ostrander won the event in 9:41.31.
