Hononegah girls soccer needed two penalty kick shootouts at Huntley to win the program's first sectional championship since 2008. The Lady Indians rode that momentum to the 3-A Super-Sectional, but Barrington ended the NIC-10 representative's deep playoff run.
The host Fillies registered a 4-1 Super-Sectional victory to advance to state. They scored 54 seconds into the contest to set the tone. Hononegah sophomore Julia Barenbaum provided the lone Lady Indians goal on a give-and-go with senior Brynn Jacobi.
"I'm very proud of this team," said senior Abby Austin after an emotional team huddle following the season-ending loss. "We started out 1-7 and we worked hard and proved we deserved to be here."
