Woman hit by car, killed while cross road in Harvard


UPDATE 1 p.m.: The Winnebago County Coroner has released the identity of the woman killed in this accident

Coroner Bill Hintz says Susan Hathcock was pronounced dead OSF St. Anthony Hospital just before 11 p.m. Wednesday. The cause of death is listed as blunt force trauma to the chest. 

The crash remains under investigation by Harvard Police. 

The Harvard Police Department says a woman was killed after being hit by a car while crossing the street Wednesday night. 

Harvard Police says officers and the Harvard Fire Protection District were called out to the 100 block of West Brink Street (Route 173) around 9:15 p.m. on a report of an accident with injuries involving a pedestrian. 

Police say a 25-year-old man was driving a 2007 Nissan east down West Brink Street and hit a 59-year-old woman who was crossing the road. 

The woman was taken to OSF St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford for treatment. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Her identity has not yet been released. 

The driver of the vehicle was treated at the scene and released.

Harvard Police say they are continuing to investigate this incident along with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department.
