The second Saturday in May brought a mix of sports offerings to Northern Illinois - conference boys tennis, non-conference baseball, and non-conference softball dominated a busy morning for high school athletes.
Hononegah took top honors as NIC-10 boys tennis team champions, winning the title at Jefferson. The Indians' #1 doubles pair of Hsing-Hao Louh and Parker Hearne defeated Freeport in the final. The #1 singles final featured Auburn's Tytus Metzler defeating Anderson Park of Belvidere North.
Freeport, Auburn, and Belvidere North rounded out the top four teams in the conference championship standings.
Rockford Christian's baseball team earned a Saturday morning 4-2 victory at Hononegah in a BNC versus NIC-10 contest. Evan Brown not only started a three-run rally at the plate for the Royal Lions, he ran down a runner at third in an attempted suicide squeeze to seal R.C.'s victory on the diamond.
Another BNC vs NIC-10 clash in non-conference play saw Harlem softball defeat Stillman Valley in Loves Park, 7-6. The conference contenders battled into the final play, when Mackenzie Lawrence walked off the Lady Cardinals in a Lady Huskies victory.
