The Chicago Cubs called up Ian Happ on Saturday, and he made a strong first impression, hitting a two-run home run in his major league debut.
Happ, the Cubs' 2015 first round pick and the 9th overall selection in that year's draft, finished 1-3 with a walk in his first MLB game. His home run cut a 5-1 deficit in half, but the Cardinals hung on for the victory in St. Louis.
Happ was off to a strong start at Triple-A Iowa, hitting .298 with nine home runs in 26 games played, prior to his call up to the Cubs.
Chicago dropped to an even 18-18 with Saturday's loss, their sixth in the last eight games. The three-game series finale is Sunday at Busch Stadium.
