Postseason Mixes with Regular Season on Busy Tuesday for Prep Sports


The high school girls soccer postseason began with regional semifinal action on Tuesday, while other spring sports played key regular season matchups to help determine conference races.

Lutheran's girls soccer team ran past Galena, 7-0, to win their 1-A regional semifinal at Winnebago. The Lady Crusaders will play the winner of Winnebago-Genoa Kingston in Friday's regional title game.

Oregon's girls soccer squad, playing the program's inaugural season, dropped a 2-0 decision to Indian Creek in the 1-A Byron regional semifinals. The Lady Timberwolves will play the Lady Tigers for the regional title - Byron beat DePue in their semifinal, 8-1.

Elsewhere in the 1-A regional semifinals, Stillman Valley blanked Mendota, 7-0. The Lady Cardinals play in the Hinckley-Big Rock regional title game against Princeton on Friday.

Big Northern baseball brought Winnebago and Stillman Valley together on the Indians' diamond on Tuesday. Former 13 WREX Athlete of the Week Jace Warkentien threw a gem for Winnebago - 6.1 shutout innings with 10 strikeouts in a 5-0 Indians win over the Cardinals.
