Fresh off an NBA D-League championship with Raptors 905, Rockford native Fred VanVleet rejoined his NBA teammates for the opener of the 2017 Eastern Conference semifinals.
VanVleet registered his highest playoff output in his rookie postseason, scoring six points in three minutes. He made all three of his field goal attempts and recorded a +9 rating for Toronto in Game 1 in Cleveland.
The Cavaliers continued their quest for a repeat with a dominant showing against the Raptors, winning 116-105. LeBron James poured in 35 points to go with 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Kyrie Irving added 24 points and 10 assists, with Kevin Love contributing 18 points and 9 rebounds.
Kyle Lowry paced the Raptors with 20 points. Game 2 is Wednesday night at Quicken Loans Arena.
